The Kiwi Room caters for children aged approximately 3 ½ – 5 years.
We provide a programme that supports and challenges this age group’s early learning in the following ways:
Relationships with parents/whanau are regarded by us as fundamental to your child’s learning and development, we acknowledge that you know your child best. We encourage and value your input into our daily programme and invite you to spend time with us to support both you and your child’s sense of belonging at Sunny Days
Early literacy and numeracy skills are supported with learning experiences that are age appropriate, interesting and challenge what your child already knows
Independence is encouraged – part of this is supporting children to be responsible for their own belongings and self-care skills such as toileting
Children develop an understanding of the rules of Sunny Days, and the reasons for them
Our Tuakana group is designed for those children nearing school age. Ideas for this group are based on the children’s interests and what has been currently observed in new entrants classrooms. It is not about teaching children to write their own name or use scissors, these things happen when your child is ready. The Tuakana group is optional; children are not obliged to be part of this group
A small group of children nearing school age are taken (with parental permission) to either Te Awa School or Marewa School once a month for a visit. The purpose of these visits is to familiarise children with a New Entrants classroom and to start their schooling in a positive way. We have close relationships with both these schools
We are passionate about supporting the dual heritage of Aotearoa thereby working within the articles of the Treaty of Waitangi in our practices
We are also respectful and inclusive of all the cultures that make up our colourfully, delightfully diverse centre.
You will need to bring:

We are a team of dedicated, passionate teachers who plan our programme around each child’s strengths and interests.
